About

Our History.

Oneida Floor has been located at the same address, 600 Rutger Street in East Utica, since its beginnings in the late 1960’s, and has long ties to the greater Utica community.  A trusted resource for flooring & tile, Oneida Floor has been in business for a reason, quality and commitment to the community that it serves.

Family owned since its inception; Oneida Floor is the sister company of Dick Tile & Marble located adjacent, on 1006 St. Vincent Street.  It originated as a soft flooring spin-off for Dick Tile & Marble.  The then owner of Dick Tile & Marble, Richard Alexander, partnered with and eventually sold both Dick Tile & Oneida Floor to David James of Clinton, in 1974. It was with David James, that Oneida Floor became a retail space and open to the public.  In 1978, David’s son, Steve James (also a Clinton resident) came to work at the companies, and continued running both companies after his father’s retirement.

In 2016, Steve formed a partnership with Timothy Linck, a life-long resident of Sauquoit, who came to work for the companies after having a long career with Murnane Building Contractors as a project manager.  Tim purchased both Dick Tile & Marble and Oneida Floor in 2021, and immediately began investing in expansion, with the employee base, projects, and interior & exterior renovations on both businesses.  Tim has a hand in every aspect of these businesses, taking pride in what they have represented to the community over the decades.  These companies continue to thrive, despite the inflow of big box stores, and will continue to be part of what makes Utica unique.
